WHEN OTHER PEOPLE MAKE MONEY SELLING YOUR ART
There are innumerable tales about how the long suffering
artists receive peanuts while the actual people selling their art
are the ones making the money. Whereas the gallery owners, auction
houses, art dealers and rich investors make considerable profit;
the artists are still trying to make a pretty penny living off their
work. In reply, the actual artists will try and handle all aspects
of their sales so that they can make as much money as possible.
There is no point in letting these people exploit the artists so
it is about time the artists take matters into their own hands.
Actually, this approach doesn’t always work. The main reason
is because the artist can hurt the value of their work. By being
firm on receiving a few extra dollars more, the artist jeopardizes
distancing the buyers. Buying paintings, sculptures, drawings etc,
is like any other business. The players concerned are there to make
money. Those that partake in purchasing art feel it has a good promise
of seeing its value appreciate. To create that thrill and enthusiasm,
a network of well connected players are necessary.
In order to create a sort of buzz the artist must leave some money
aside. Once the actual purchasers realize that the art they bought
has increased in value then they will look forward to buying even
more from that artist. To uphold the momentum, the artist must continue
making attractive high quality works of art and working with the
promoter to reach the right buyers. Once that is accomplished, the
artist can dictate the terms for selling their works. That is how
a successful artist makes a living.
